What do you love about Art Clay?
I love how pliable and manageable Art Clay is

What are your favorite Art Clay projects/creations?
I enjoy making hinged boxes and one of my favorites is my hinged pendant with a collage on the inside, as well as a hinged box ring, because of its tiny size and flower encased in resin in the interior.  I’m fond of my boxes as they provide me with the opportunity to add a little surprise on the inside.

What other media do you work and/or teach in?
I also like the fabrication process of working in sterling silver and other metals:  sawing, filing and soldering.  Occasionally I dabble in paper arts, such as collage and card making.

Biography:
I’ve always enjoyed artistic pursuits, reading and cooking.  As a child in New York, I started ballet dancing at the age of three, and at the age of ten, I learned to play the accordion.  I dabbled in a variety of art mediums, but I didn’t find anything to hold my interest till I started working in metals.  I studied metalsmithing at the local college, as well as at numerous workshops all over the US.  In 1994 I graduated from The First Institute of Gemology & Jewelry, Coral Gables, FL.  In 2001, I took my first metal clay class and instantly fell in love with this fabulous material.  My four grown daughters all enjoy wearing my creations, as does my “Yorkie”, who proudly wears her metal clay butterfly name tag.  My husband had a beautiful studio built for me in our home, and for the past several years I’ve been teaching private classes and at the local college.  Because of health problems, I reluctantly decided to discontinue teaching and devote more time to studio work.

  Philosophy:
I’ve always found joy in artistic endeavors, but working with metal clay has opened a whole new world for me.  The process of creating is as fulfilling and rewarding as reaching the end result.  When you can call your work “play”, life is good.
