What do you love about Art Clay??
What don't I love about Art Clay?  I would have to say, as an artist,  that this is the most exciting medium to work with. I enjoy the texture of the medium when working with it and I am always excited to see the magic of art clay turning into a brilliant piece of pure silver. It never ceases to amaze me. There are so many uses for art clay as an end product.  The obvious being jewelry.  Going beyond there it can be used in many forms as an extra-ordinary visual art medium. I love creating sculpture with it as you can see with my "Heaven & Earth"  Pendant Necklace.  Here I am incorporating jewelry and sculpture.  However I plan in the new year to spend more time sculpting with art clay and incorporating it in other sculpting mediums such as alabaster, marble and glass. I've always been one to push the envelope or work outside the box and with art clay my imagination is going way beyond what I ever expected to be creating at this time in my life.  2005 was an exciting creative year for me and I see 2006 becoming the year where I will be extending my creativity to a much higher level and art clay will be part of that process.

I love sharing art clay with others.  I enjoy showing them the excitement of working with this medium and it pleases me seeing their excitement and pleasure when they create their own piece of gleaming beauty.  Art clay automatically lifts the spirit of anyone who works with it.

What are your favorite Art Clay projects/creations?
I know this is not the proper answer to this question, but I like just about any project in Art Clay.  As long as I am creating in this medium I am happy.  I  really enjoy making small sculpture projects like my "Heaven and Earth" Sculpture Pendant Necklace.  I wish I could afford to make large sculpture in this medium but unfortunately I am budgeted to smaller pieces.

What other media do you work and/or teach in?
I am a multi media artist.  I design and make jewelry.  Paint in watercolor, acrylic and oil.  I sculpt in clay, stone and metal.  I work occasionally in glass.  Collage is a fun medium I also enjoy. And I very often mix various mediums together on canvas or in a piece of sculpture.
Actually if you give me a medium I'll create a piece of art.  I need to create every day to feel that I have contributed to life.  I teach Art Clay in my art studio.  It is so satisfying to see how excited people get making their own Art Clay creations.

Biography:
Jo Anne began creating from a very young age.  As a child she wrote poetry accompanied by her illustrative drawings.  In grade 2 her painting of a lonely puppy was chosen for the A.S.P.C.A. poster and her multi-media collage depicting the early history of man made its way to a museum showing.  Teen years were spent drawing, sculpting, designing fashion & fashion accessories and learning the art of make-up.  For the next ten years she worked in the make-up industry for many major cosmetic companies which lead to teaching professional make-up techniques including TV. and Theatrical Make-up in her Cecil B. Studios Workshops.  In the 80's JoAnne started designing jewelry. Today she creates paintings and sculpture for birthstone jewelry lines.  She also creates jewelry lines to accompany museum exhibitions.   Her "Neon 'n' Nature landscape paintings and the the "Neon at Twilite" abstract paintings and their jewelry lines were created specifically for the 2001 Chihuly exhibition at the Las Vegas Art Museum.   These original art pieces seem to light up due to JoAnne's unique technical process and mastery of color and light.   They are made with powder pigment and chemical on glass.  This 10 step process includes melting, fusing, hand painting and bonding in order to create the vibrant colors and light.  The end result melds Nevada's neon lights with the surrounding desert landscapes.  Jo Anne's latest love is Art Clay.  This was just the medium she needed to create her art and jewelry.  How timely.  Jo Anne uses Art Clay with stone, glass, canvas or in just about any other medium she works in.  It is the perfect accent to any piece of art.

  Philosophy:
Art is the expression of the artist's inner being.  What is externalized on canvas,  in 3D art form or in words is the direct interpretation of the artist's thoughts into physical form where it is expressed to the public.  Thought and emotion is translated into art by the artist.   Art can influence the viewer and therefore I believe that it is important to create positive art in order to maintain a peaceful loving society.  This is the purpose of the "Artist's of Divine Intervention".  There are many styles and art expressions both positive and negative but my group simply chooses to create positive art with a finer peaceful vibration.  We believe that if in some way we can place a smile on a face,  help heal a wounded heart,  lessen the burden of a confused mind,  place joy in the spirit of a mislaid soul or  simply erase an evil thought and replace it with goodness it will be well worth the trip.  Our hope is for a better quality life that will encourage others in that same direction.  I believe that Creating Positive Art is an extension of the Creator and an expression of Love.

  Awards:
I was just awarded the "ARTV AWARDS "Muse Award" for Best Group Project.  I founded the group of artists called "Artists of Divine Intervention".  We create art for world peace and fellowship.  The ARTV AWARDS is an award program like the Oscars but for visual arts.   It is an honor to be part of the program  and I am so pleased that we won due to our honorable mission and talented artists.  The ARTV AWARDS were held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
On December 7th, 2005  The Vegas Art Guild awarded me a certificate of recognition for personal commitment, dedication and performance in visual arts. I work extensively with art associations and charities, donating time and art to about  5 charities per year.
I am also honored to take 3rd place in the Art Clay World USA First Annual North American Design Competition 2005.
