I have always been interested in creating. As a child, I believed you couldn’t be an artist unless you could draw really, really well. I never quite felt I could draw well enough to be an artist, so I never tried, though I dabbled in crafts.
It took me many years to realize that artistic expression takes many forms. It springs from the depths of the soul and brings us closer to our inherent Divine Spirit. Once I realized that there was no stopping me. I started as a potter, then tried metal smithing, glass fusing, lampworking and metal clay.
My current focus is primarily in creating one of a kind art jewelry with fine silver, metal clay, sterling silver, my own fused glass, stones and more. I love mixing media and styles to create unique, elegant and whimsical designs. Everything I make is hand fabricated by me, though I do use commercial chains on some of my pendants.
Rather than work from sketches, I like to let my work unfold. I select textures and stones and think about general shapes before I begin, but then I let the piece evolve as I work. Many times the little surprises and “accidents” that happen as I go along lead me to a new discovery that is exciting and stimulating. I am inspired by so many things, other artists, textures, shapes and colors to name a few.
I am also a Gallery Owner and teacher. I truly enjoy helping other discover the artist within them. I seek to do just that through my work and helping others to explore their creative visions. |
