Bio:
I have been classically trained
as a jeweler from the Revere
Academy of Jewelry Arts in San
Francisco. While owning a
jewelry gallery from 1989 to
2000 I created jewelry for
clients and for display in our
boutique. During that time I
fell in love with the silver and
polymer clays and have been
taking workshops with the
masters in their fields. In
2004, I received my Senior
Instructor Certification with
Art Clay and have taken
specialized workshops from
international polymer artists.
Since 2001, I have been actively
teaching the polymer and Art
Clay to new students at the U
Bead It store in Sacramento,
California. Over the years, I
have won several awards for my
jewelry designs. I actually
donated my Senior Certification
piece to the Sacramento Region's
KVIE public television station's
(PBS) annual art auction last
year and won an award for that
design. In April 2005, I had an
article in the Step by Step
section of Lapidary Journal
magazine. Soon I will be having
open studio nights for my
students to come back and be
mentored. |

Philosophy:
Since I began
forming artwork in the crib
with crayons on rubber
sheets and mud pies in the
backyard: I have never
stopped creating what I
consider art. I have a great
love of working with the
precious metals and clays,
and these two media draw me
into working with them
because of their
malleability and their
permanence. Once I made that
great leap from a
two-dimensional artist into
the realities of
three-dimensional creativity
- the ideas have been
overflowing and there is
just not enough time to
design and make everything I
desire.
Art Clay enables
me to produce organic forms
with great textures and
allows me to continue to
create one-of-a-kind pieces
of wearable art. I combine
the craft of sketching a
design and then creating the
work in clay as the spirit
moves me: I use the sketch
as a guideline for solid
construction, yet leave
myself open to artistic
license. I do have the best
of all possible worlds. |
