  • Biography:
Kate received a BS in music and art education from Bemidji State University, in 1969. She taught art, music, and directed plays and musicals throughout the state of Minnesota for many years before marrying her husband, Doug, in 1983. They moved to their current location in 1987, where they raise Arabian horses, give riding lessons, and board other horses.

Kate became involved in crafts when she volunteered to do 160 hand painted and stamped invitations for a friends daughter's wedding. She became interested in Art Clay when she picked up a copy of the Milwaukee Bead Show booklet, in a local craft store, and began reading about metal clay. Having taken a summer extension course in jewelry, she knew she loved the design part, but couldn't afford the set up cost. So, after taking an introductory course, and doing some online research, Kate took her certification with Art Clay Senior Instructor Peggy Koop.

Kate also enjoys gardening, pencil sketching, acrylic paint, and hand built pottery.
    Philosophy:
This past year has been a year of tremendous growth and discovery. I hope to continue to expand my abilities as a designer and a teacher. I am very glad that I am associated with Art Clay Silver and hope to spread the word. I love that I can set up my studio right in our family room and work on my jewelry at the same time that my family watches television.
    Awards / Degrees:
  • Recipient of 4 awards in the 2005 NAD Competition
  • Return to Senior Instructor List
