  • Biography:
I started working with silver in 1971. It was these beginnings which led me to an undergraduate Art Degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. It was at the U. of W. that I began to work with sculpture as well. After graduating and moving to Austin, Texas, I began to work with glass while pursuing my sculptural artwork. I had my first one-man exhibition in 1984 in Austin, and shortly afterwards, went to graduate school at Tyler School of Art - Temple University. I finished my MFA degree in Sculpture in 1987. I have spent the following years working in the arts and living in a number of places around the world. Those would include Philadelphia, Chicago, the southern Borders area of Scotland, and currently, Spokane, Washington. I have worked with, and made art with, a wide range of materials and methods, an activity which is ongoing today. I currently teach Art Clay workshops, stained glass, glass fusing and an art history based Introduction to Art, amongst other subjects.
    Philosophy:
I feel that the point of our endeavors as artists and craftspeople is the expression of our ideas and expression. I believe we are always working to develop and improve a stronger, better, clearer, expression of our personal style and design. To that end, when I am teaching, I attempt to learn the direction and inclination of my students so that I can share anything and everything I might have by way of background, technical and/or materials experience and sensibility. The point being to convey as much help and information as possible in the time we (the student and I) have to share. This may go well outside the confines of Art Clay or jewelry.
