Biography:
A native of Southern California, I grew up in the Pasadena area. Summer vacations spent with my aunt in Texas introduced me to artistic pursuits including quilling, copper enameling and china painting. Developing my artistry was interrupted by college and a career as an accountant. Twenty years later, I reentered the artistic world when illness prevented me from continuing with my first passion as an aerobic dance instructor. I explored stamping, scrap booking, and Pergamano as alternate creative outlets. A friend in Tacoma reintroduced me to quilling. This developed into a full-time business designing and teaching when I moved to San Diego. Eventually I felt the need for new challenges, new techniques and a more permanent medium for my artistic endeavors. Art Clay Silver was love at first class. I dove in so completely it was hard to get back to my quilling business. I added Art Clay Silver classes to my teaching schedule as soon as I completed my Level One Instructor Certification. Though my quilling business continues as I am currently writing a commissioned quilling book, my heart belongs to Art Clay Silver. I create Art Clay Silver jewelry in every spare moment I can find. |
Philosophy:
Art Clay Silver has given me a more permanent medium in which to continue exploring the type of designs I began in quilling. I love the scrolly, flowing Victorian designs so suited to quilling. Instead of rolling scrolls from paper, I can roll scrolls from clay or draw them with syringe. This yields the sparkling designs I prefer without the addition of glitter or ink necessary in quilling. Another of my favorite quilling themes is flowers. My quilling flowers are as three-dimensional as possible. I have continued this in Art Clay Silver, making the flowers and leaves as life-like as possible. I have a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean everyday from my studio where I work and live. This has lead to a whole line of seashell inspired jewelry. My overall approach to Art Clay Silver strives for jewelry that is elegant, sophisticated and refined.
