What do you love about Art Clay?
I love the endless possibilities Art Clay has to offer. I am constantly exploring new ideas in working with the medium. I work on several projects at one time, each one has its own path which can lead me to new and wonderful discoveries.
What are your favorite Art Clay projects/creations?
I don’t have one favorite project or creation. I enjoy the journey I go thru in creating each piece. I learn so much along the way, there’s always positive and negative outcomes. Surprises are always welcomed in my studio…they keep me moving forward.
What other media do you work and/or teach in?
I enjoy creating and designing with seed beads and fire polish beads. In the last couple of years I have designed and taught about forty beaded bracelets. I have been incorporating Art Clay and beads into some of my designs. I also enjoy designing with wire. I had a wonderful instructor, Lynn Merchant, greatly revered as the guru master in wire work. I have taken the art of wire work into my own style and have combined it with Art Clay. I have explored many other art forms like fashion design, photography, printmaking, silver–smithing, life drawing. I love art, always have, always will.
Biography:
I have been working with metal clay since 1998. From the first class I took, I fell in love with this medium, I knew I had to learn more, I took my level one and level two (now senior certification) right away. In the past four years I assisted Art Clay World, USA at several of the major national shows, including Bead & Button, Glass Expo, Tucson Gem Show, Beadfest, Bead Expo, Puget Bead Show, and HIA. I enjoyed meeting all the wonderful people while demonstrating make and takes. It has been a pleasure speaking with so many people about this exciting medium. It’s always thrilling to see the excitement on the faces of the students as they brush the white surface from their creation, to reveal the gleam of silver. Personal history – small town girl – eldest of nine.
Philosophy:
I believe there is art in all of us, we all have different ways to express ourselves. To me, art comes in many forms; it’s unlimited.
Awards / Degrees:
Awards are a nice form of recognition, but the love of creating something from nothing is very rewarding.
