Introductory Class Overview

People looking for their first experience with Art Clay usually take introductory classes. These classes can vary widely in subject matter depending on the instructor. Typical class projects include basic pendants, rings, brooches, earrings, etc. These basic classes are a great way to experiment, while having an instructor nearby for any aid that may be needed. Introductory classes are the most common classes due to the short period of time required, and the low cost.

Certified Level One Instructors, Senior Instructors, and Master Instructors are capable of holding introductory level classes. To find an introductory class, please check our online class calendar frequently, or click here to view a listing of certified Senior and Master Instructors.

Level One & Crossover Certification Class Overview

Level One Certification
In order to become a certified instructor, you must successfully complete the Level One Certification course. This course is designed to provide an in-depth knowledge of Art Clay. The curriculum consists of seven different projects taught over 24 hours of instruction (typically three eight hour days), and covers a variety of techniques. Some of the techniques include use of organic forms, creating flat and round-shank rings, addition and firing of gemstones and porcelain, creating a mirror finish, and much more. This course provides general and technical information, as well as some helpful teaching guidelines.

Crossover Certification
The Crossover Certification course is a three-project class that covers some of the specialty Art Clay products. This class is available to certified PMC Instructors. In order to qualify, an individual must have become Level One PMC certified before December 1, 2007 or Level Two PMC certified any time thereafter. All students that take a Crossover Certification will be required to submit a copy of their PMC certificates.

Upon successful completion of the Level One or Crossover Certification course, you are entitled to:

  1. Discount on Art Clay Silver Series products (when purchased through ACW USA Inc.)
  2. Teach Art Clay Introductory classes
  3. Take the Senior Level Certification Course

It also introduces the use of 3-dimensional design in the creation of hollow forms, with emphasis on detail and fine finishing.

Overview of Other Types of Classes

Other Types of Classes
Certified Art Clay Instructors are well known for working with other media. It is very common for our Instructors to hold other classes that include materials that may be incorporated into your Art Clay creations (some examples of other media used with Art Clay are polymer clay, porcelain, enameling, ceramics, and glass). Feel free to take a look at the ACW Senior and Master Instructor Artist pages, as many indicate other media in which they work. Click here to view a list of Master and Senior Instructors.
