Biography:
Bernadette began working with Metal Clay in 2005, is certified Level 2 with PMC Connection, and is a Senior Instructor with Art Clay Silver International. She received certification in The Fine Jewelry Program from the Miami Jewelry School where she learned basic fabrication and bench jeweler’s techniques. She started teaching Metal Clay classes in 2007. Bernadette is a member of South Florida Jewelry Arts Guild, Florida Society of Goldsmiths, Lapidary Guild of S. Florida, PMC Guild, Enamel Guild South Florida, and is the founder of Miami Metal Clay Artists which is the local chapter of Art Clay Society.

Bernadette was a special education teacher for over 30 years, and is now passionate about teaching and combining Metal Clay with traditional jewelry techniques. Her goal is to share these techniques, letting others know that they can make fine silver jewelry without traditional metalsmithing skills.
Artist Philosophy:
I have always loved teaching and after 30 years, now I love it even more because I am teaching people about jewelry making with metal clay. I really get a thrill when a new student finishes their piece, looks at it, and says, "I can’t believe that I made this out of clay!" I am really doing what I love.

I have been fortunate to have been able to take classes from many talented teachers in several jewelry crafting mediums. I will continue to always take classes so that I can "pay it forward" to my students. I will always strive to be the best teacher that I can and believe that by learning from others, I not only learn new techniques, but learn new teaching styles. As a teacher we learned from other teachers what we liked and did not like about their methods of teaching. My philosophy is that to teach is to learn twice.

When I’ working in my studio I feel joy. I think that we are all creative beings and need to express ourselves artistically in some way or another. The trick is to find what we like to do and to be able to connect with that creativity.
