Biography:
Extensive research and teaching experience in the fields of Biology, Chemistry and Physics coupled with 30 years experience in cake decorating (icings, fondant, gum paste, and pulled and blown sugar) made the transition to metal clay a natural progression in the artistic world of jewelry design. My jewelry studies began with several Gerdany courses, which totally captivated me with its exactness of the patterns and array of colors and designs. My interests soon branched to wire and metalsmithing. The precise nature of a scientist and the artistic flare of a decorator drew me to the beauty and versatility of metal clay. The vast capabilities in jewelry design with metal clay are limited only by our imaginations.
Artist Philosophy:
An outstanding educator is the result of a careful balance of qualities that are both learned and innate. The learned skills, such as knowledge of course content and classroom management techniques, are complemented by certian innate qualities: the motivation to freely share knowledge, the sensitivity to observe the special needs of each student, the patience to deal with the varied personalities and abilities encountered in each class, the creativity to maintain a dynamic environment, the ability to listen and maintain open lines of communication to foster learning, and the strength to accept constructive criticism and help when needed. Regular honing of these qualities through continuing education, self-assessment and personal growth keep classes fresh and productive and enjoyable.

It is my hope to develop as a dedicated and creative educator and designer in metal clay, sharing not only the technical, but encouraging imaginations and creativity in each student.
