Artist Statement:

I am a lover of learning. Seeking out knowledge, particularly in all things art-related, has been a passion of mine throughout my life. In my years, I have seen that one of the best ways to learn is through teaching. Everyone has within them the innate ability to create, and I want to help bring that out in my students. Having a background in education has helped me to be more flexible in dealing with a variety of learning styles and meeting the needs of students. I am excited about sharing the many facets of Art Clay Silver.

Biography:

When it comes to art, I've never met a medium I didn't like. From the time I was young, I was exposed to a variety of experiences in art through my mother. As a mother, I have endeavored to do the same for my children. It was through one of these attempts as a homeschool mom that I was introduced to metal clay. I fell in love with it instantly and sought more classes and, eventually, certification. Through this I have been able to teach Art Clay classes to a variety of students and friends.

Inspiration for my work is drawn from many different aspects of my life. My family is one of my foremost sources of inspiration. They are my encouragement and my motivators, giving me ideas when I need it most. My work in American Sign Language has influenced me to a large extent. I learned the language when I was young and have been heavily involved in the Deaf comminuty ever since. The experiences and friends I have gained through this are a constant wealth of creativity for me. Hints of Southwestern flair are also evident in some of my pieces, due to the years I spent living in New Mexico.

I have learned from many different people in my life, but I have learned from the mistakes I made along the way more than anything. This is true in art as it is in life.
